My name is Mary Ferris and I am a studio potter. I live in beautiful southern Lancaster County with my husband, Ira. I feel I always embrace my creative spirit in everything I do in life. I enjoy cooking, entertaining friends and family, gardening, cultural events, and traveling to new places.
I spent my first career in retail. I was a gift buyer for 2 galleries in a high end picture framing business. After I accomplished my goals in that career, I decided to see what could be accomplished next! I decided to return to school and become certified to teach art K-12. Currently, I am an art substitute teacher in numerous school districts, and continuing my life as a studio potter.
My work is constantly evolving and growing and tends to change with the feel of each season. My approach to design and form has always been intuitive. My artistic eyes have been reopened since my approach depends not only on my own process, but more importantly on the process of teaching. I am dedicated to the communication skills needed to successfully encourage our youth to express themselves creativity.
I enjoy the excitement of taking on creative challenges by stepping out of my comfort zone using new materials and new techniques. Sharing these challenges in a classroom has been invigorating. The rewards of teaching children has been more moving for me than I ever imagined.
I hope you enjoy the images I am sharing and please feel free to email me if you have any questions. Thanks for visiting and please return often for updates!
